Raumgestaltung: Water and the City

Updated: Apr 5, 2023

The seminar Spatial Design investigates theories, concepts, and drivers of spatial transformation in relationship to their human and nonhuman users. Codeveloped by Oswald Jenewein and Mohsen Hajibabaei, the course of Fall 2022/2023 focused on multi-scalar investigations on how water shapes the natural and built environment in distinct climate conditions. Students explored complex urban water systems as critical processes enabling healthy urban ecosystems alpine and coastal regions. To bridge macro-level systems to the social scale of humans, a set of water-saving behaviors aimed to articulate a concrete call for climate action.

Students worked in teams to understand processes and strategies through maps, diagrams, plans, sections, and visualizations.
